Regarding Vagicon 2020 (Virtual)
While no physical harm occurred, we acknowledge that the security breach that exposed 15,000 attendees' personal information, payment details, and browser histories was regrettable. We also apologize to the 847 attendees whose webcams were inadvertently livestreamed to the main stage without consent.
The Zoom bombing incident featuring explicit content during the children's coding workshop was particularly unfortunate, and we extend our apologies to the families affected. Our IT contractor responsible for security has been released, primarily because he was arrested for unrelated charges.
On the bright side, we would like to remind our community that we ultimately chose not to proceed with our original plan to host Vagicon 2020 as an in-person event at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial site. We believe we deserve some credit for recognizing, after only minimal pushback, that a developer conference at a former concentration camp would have been inappropriate regardless of how "historically significant" the venue was.
We have learned our lesson about cybersecurity and will not repeat the same mistake in the future.
